Hello my name is Mrs. Layne and I am your TownGate Elementary School Librarian. I look forward to working with the students, staff and parents of TownGate. Students are scheduled to come with their class and teacher to check out a library book. Students come on their own to check out an AR book during their AR time. Parents are welcome to come before school 8:30 to 9:00 and after school 3:00 - 3:30 to check out books for their child. FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA! We are very excited that the district is offering the Encyclopedia Britannica on-line for students and staff to use at school and for students and parents to use from home. This will help with research and projects. Please read and use lthe link below. NEW LIBRARY CIRCULATION PROGRAM "DESTINY" Our new Library Circulation Program "Destiny" will allow staff, students and parents to see what books we have in the library. This will help support the curriculum, AR, classwork and homework. Please use link below. BOOKWORM READERS! Students in K-1 participate in the bookworm reader program here at TownGate. Students read at home and parents record the books on the student reading log. Please see your child's teacher for more details. ACCLERATED READER! Acclerated Reader is a supplemental program that is very popular here at TownGate. This program helps students get excited about reading. Please ask your child what is their AR reading level. Here is how AR works: 1. Student Reads a Book. Students choose books at their appropriate reading levels and read them at their own pace. 2. Student Takes a Quiz. Accelerated Reader Enterprise offers more than 100,000 quizzes to help you motivate and monitor increased reading practice. 3. You Get Information. You get immediate information feedback on the reading and vocabulary progress of each student. CALIFORNIA YOUNG READER MEDAL TownGate Students will once again be participating in the ever popular "California Young Reader Medal" program The California Young Reader Medal program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal.
